Neanderthal Seeks Extra Yarns Knitting in the City Book 8 edition by Penny Reid Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
**NOTE** If you’re late to the Knitting series like I was and missed a lot of these as freebies, I felt the price was worthwhile. If you were able to collect these through Penny’s newsletters and what not, then 🤷🏻♀️
I was lacking the Scenes from the City bits and decided to splurge on this ebook so I could finally read them. I loved the odds and ends that completed the Kintting series. I also appreciated how some scenes provided much-needed closure on some of my favorite characters and the what happens after questions I had swirling in my head.
After I finished the ebook, I immediately turned around to buy the print copy because 1) I enjoyed the shorts that much, 2) so I wouldn’t be scrambling to find a way to read the book like I did for Scenes in the City, and 3) I now have all the scenes and extras in one handy little place to turn to when I want to reread them.
I love the Knitting in the City series so I was super excited when I heard this was coming out. No, it's not all new content, which Penny Reid stated many times. It's short stories and deleted scenes, most of which had been previously published for limited times. To have them all in one place makes my heart happy because obviously it makes it easy to find everything. At the beginning of each chapter/short story there's a note that let's you know exactly where it falls in the original series. I love the extra glimpses of what happened. Such a great addition to the KitC series.
Nothing new, if you subscribe to her news letters would have read most of these scenes, a bit disappointed in Ms. Reid for charging $5.99 for incomplete scenes that I have read in other places. If this book was $1.99 probably would give it 4 stars. Come on Penny, don't get greedy, just because you know we love you.
ETA Note to the 1-star reviewers, READ THE SMALL PRINT. Not even the small print, even just the basic description. The author mentions repeatedly that this is a collection of all the work that is material that was published elsewhere and often available for free. Geesh! If the price point and lack of new content was the only reason you 1-starred it then that is much more a reflection of you than the book.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
*Sigh* I miss these people. These characters, I mean. I so appreciate this collection of random scenes that didn’t belong elsewhere and formed no story and yet continued to inform characters that I adore. The wit and dialogue made be smile through the whole thing. I cried tears of joy and laughed out loud. The only angst this purchase brought me is the desire to spend more time in Chicago and knit with these ladies for real.
I really love reading all of these extra scenes from all of my favourite characters. Yes - I had already read the majority of them, but this was totally worth it just for the new content. I read the book from start to finish, enjoying scenes I had already read, and absolutely devouring all the new scenes. My favourites would have to be Extra Scene The Junior Hackers Society for Sandra and Alex, and Dan's creative word list was hilarious.
The deleted scenes were...meh. New stuff was okay! I read some of these already on Penny Reid's blog. I was most disappointed, though, because, and I don't know where I got the ideas, that this book would contain knitting/crochet patterns for some of the items the book characters were working on (especially the project the guys were working on). The patterns all sounded so interesting. I also had the mistaken idea that maybe a few of the drink and food recipes would be included as well. Maybe the price fooled me into thinking there was more to the book than there was. This is definitely not worth $5.99....maybe $1.99 or $2.99 at the most...but not the price of an actual book.
If you follow this author on any social media platform, she has said several times that this is a collection of mostly, previously published deleted scenes and extras that just didn’t fit anywhere in their stories.
Thrown in are a few new, never before seen scenes.
For me personally, I had not read any of these scenes. They were all new to me. And I loved them.
If you’ve read the Knitting in the City series, you’ll enjoy going back and revisiting our favorite couples. Laugh with them, cry with them.
It made me want to go back and do a re read.
I definitely would not start with this book. But I highly recommend the entire series. This was a perfect bow to wrap around the end of the series.
