This is an amazing book! I read it because I was asked to by a friend. I like science fiction, but usually not so much the space ship to outer space kind of science fiction. When I was young I read a lot of Heinlein, and that was pretty much enough for me - I've read a few (maybe more than a few) since then, but I'm more inclined to the magician-type book. This book kept me completely absorbed - more action than I've read in ages, and a heroine who is prickly, but still likeable with all her faults, even an addiction to a drug which helps keep her alert enough for faster than light travel. I never really know what to say when asked about the amount of violence in a book - I tend to say not much or none as long as it's not person against person (or alien - you know what I mean) violence. Space battles don't count. There are a lot of space battles in this book, and exciting ones, too. I really liked it and heartily recommend it for all the action, because the characters have heart, because the writing is really good, and because it kept me thoroughly engrossed all the way through. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

When choosing this book I was following its many good reviews.
Unfortunately, I am very disappointed. The plot is not interesting, the pace is very slow, and overall the book is just boring. I was able to read only half of it before I resigned. Why should I continue if there are plenty of more interesting ones?
I am very glad that I got this copy for free due to some promotion on . Paying the regular price of nearly 4$ would make me really depressed.
I received this book from the author to read and review. Thank you for the opportunity to get to know your style.
The story centers around twin sisters of mixed parentage who loose their parents early in life. One becomes a famous reporter and the other the most famous pilot in space. Their world is like ours, many countries disagreeing, some at war, lots of lives lost to famine or natural disasters. They have some settlements on close planets but things aren't going well. Suddenly aliens attack, the worlds unite. The sisters discover all is not as it appears.
There is a lot of back story on the characters so their actions make sense. What made the story drag a bit was the long passages on why and how the technology worked the way it did. Don't know if it made sense or not. There were many interesting action parts but overall it just didn't elicit any emotional reaction.
First off, I was asked by the author to review this, but wound up purchasing a copy instead of getting one gratis due to stupidity on my part, however I was still asked to do a review and agreed to doing a review so here it is.

Honestly, I had high hopes for this book based on the cover art and title. When I started reading, though, my hopes started to shatter because it does begin slowly and proceeds jerkily throughout at least the beginning of the story. However, the characters were developed enough and the story compelling enough for me to continue.

As you can tell from my star rating I am very happy I did so. I initially wanted to only give it four stars due to its slow start, I decided upon further reflection to award it top honors. Why? Because I fully bought into the dystopian future. I bought into the characters' lives. I bought into the whole story arc. I may not have agreed with where things wound up (socialist, one solar-system government led by the U.N. with high taxes and seemingly no way out) however, in the universe the author created it is a very plausible result of what happened in the story.

The story follows the lives of people who get caught up in a centuries old plot to unify humanity - through deceit and other such machinations - by creating an enemy humanity must unite against if they are to survive as a species. One of them is a drug-addicted ace fighter pilot (main character), her journalist sister, a brilliant scientist, and those around them to lesser degrees. As the pilot struggles with her drug dependency and family relationships, she gets thrust into a plot so immense that it literally goes back hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years. All the while she's just trying to keep her nose clean for the chance at piloting the first of it's kind FTL ship which uses tunneling into alternate dimensions to cut down travel times between two points in our dimension.

Despite her best efforts she winds up putting the people she loves directly into the line of fire because she - above anything else - believes in honor, justice, and honesty.

I will be purchasing the sequels.
Stimulating story of a female space pilot hooked on "spark" delving into what underhanded subterfuge others have in plan for planet Earth. Amusing to think that with all the advancements of space flight to Jupiter and beyond in the year 2247 mankind is still fighting among itself, waiting for their first flying cars and celebrating Superbowl CCLXXXI (281). Likable characters were best draw of the book and for that reason am looking forward to ' powering into book two next. Leave you with one last passage I really enjoyed, "They say people are often attracted to the wrong person in the same way the best-tasting foods have the worst nutritional value." Fun book!
Rating 3.5/5

Beyond Cloud Nine was a really interesting sci-fi novel. I wish I could give this book a higher rating, but the main reason I didn’t is because I never really got “into” the book until about 100 pages in, not kidding.

This book was different from other sci-fi novels I’ve read before, but I think it was still enjoyable. Beyond Cloud Nine isn’t like anything you’d see on TV or read about, but that’s part of it’s charm. I am excited to read the sequel!

One thing that definitely surprised me about this book was that it was self published. I actually never knew that until I got the second book, Beyond The Horizon as a review copy. I know some people don’t read self published books, which may be a reason why this book isn’t very popular, which makes me kind of sad. I wish this book was more well known.
