Angelology A Novel Angelology Series Danielle Trussoni 9780670021475 Books

I bought this after listening to the first book "Angelopolis". It is a great followup with excellent characters and a totally different story line than the first. Definitely worth listening (or reading) to.

Angelology A Novel Angelology Series Danielle Trussoni 9780670021475 Books Reviews

Having a great interest in the subject of angels and reading some reviews, I threw myself into reading this novel with gusto to see how Ms Trussoni dealt with the tricky subject matter. The concept of angels mating with women and creating a separate race of angelic humans or human angels is an interesting one to fictionalise.

I found the novel thoroughly enjoyable. Yes, I agree with many of the other reviewers, it does have a tendency to meander a lot and probably should have been 100 or so pages shorter. This may be a reflection of Ms Trussoni being a relatively new novelist as over-writing is common for newish writers. The reader gets a history lesson which is good for those of us who are interested in such but I can see why many readers found this aspect of the novel difficult and less enjoyable.

The writing is elaborate, very descriptive and powerful taking on a literary fiction bent, which I found particularly enjoyable, transporting me to the snowy mountains of Bulgaria, the catacombs of Paris, the bustle of New York and the peaceful serenity of a Convent. There was a good genealogy outlined and the development of Evangeline was good too. I didn't really enjoy the love story element between Evangeline and Verlaine as it reminded me of a romance novel rather than a literary piece of prose. I hope in the sequel Ms Trussoni will better develop the romance side, less gush and more grit, ala life.

As the title of my review says, this could be a really good movie and I think the novel could have been improved if written with a movie script in mind. This would have added greater pace, particularly between scenes, plus more suspense, enabling the novel to really be classified as a thriller, which it really isn't.

Very good start and I look forward to reading the next installment.
I liked Angelology. I just wish I had liked it more. There are some scenes in the novel that verged on "great." But there were other portions of the book that seemed more muddled than capable of propelling the story along. For some reason it was difficult for me to keep the characters straight and I'd catch myself suddenly realizing that I'd spent the last 15 minutes confusing Evangaline with Gabriella and had to skim back over the last chapter to make sure there weren't any other plot points I'd missed. While I can admit to at least some of the blame when my mind wonders while reading, it usually means the author has failed to keep me engaged with the story.

There were plenty of parts of Angelology that did hold my interest, but over all the book seemed uneven - as if one more pass by an editor could have worked wonders with the book's pacing.

For a first novel, Ms. Trussoni has done well. She even managed to surprise me a few times when I thought I knew where the plot was going only for it to veer in an unexpected direction (and away from a cliche I felt sure was coming). More than anything, Angelology reminded me of a hybrid of Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian and a well-written Dan Brown novel (if that's not an oxymoron).

Apparently Ms. Trussoni is planning a series of angelology books. She has piqued my interest sufficiently in this book that I will probably join her for here next novel.
A superb novel. Well-written, fast-paced, and filled with action. The author writes with style and the clear command of the language. If you have heard about the Nephilim before, this is a good way to learn about them. I particularly liked the scene where the nun's call for angelic intervention is answered. The ending caught me by surprise and sets up a subsequent novel very well. The author creates an imaginative world that is well constructed and captures the reader's interest.
One of the greatest mysteries in the bible are the Nephilim. Said to be the children of the Sons of God and the daughters of men who were giants in their day, men of strength and renown. Possibly the characters of folklore such as Hercules? They were plentiful before the Deluge of Noahs time and scripture says some are still around that survived. That subject has always interested me. Who are the "Sons of God" and are they the angels who left their first estate and fell with Lucifer to earth? Where are they now? Although the book is science fiction, much of it is well researched and the author tells a great story of mystery, archaeology, intrigue and horror. I couldn't put it down and was sad when it ended. I thirsted for more of the story! I was excited and happy to know there will be a sequel. I really got attached to the characters and mourned with them and was happy with them. I think it will be enjoyable for anyone who, like me, loves scripture but likes to think out of the box as well. I'm a "what if" thinker and this fed my imagination very well. I give it a "thumbs up" and I'm anticipating the next adventure with the characters soon, I hope.
When I read People magazine review of this book, I went and ordered it right away. The concept was so interesting, and I was ready to love the book. It took me over two months to finish it, and my husband said, "You must hate the book, I've never seen you take so long reading one book." It was SO difficult for me to finish it.

The concept is very intriguing. But the flow of the story is horrible, and the characters are so overly dramatic and immature. She uses difficult words in awkward places. I hated all the romantic insinuations throughout the book - "he didn't know why, but he felt a strong pull", or "she shouldn't have felt this way, but she did", sort of thing.

<spoiler alert>
I finished the book just to see what happened. I did want to know how she wrapped up the book. She didn't. She obviously left it hanging for the sequel. I HATE it when authors do that. The ending was so incredibly loose, I wanted to throw the book in the fire.
I bought this after listening to the first book "Angelopolis". It is a great followup with excellent characters and a totally different story line than the first. Definitely worth listening (or reading) to.
